May 6 Club Meeting
1. Jerry Friedman, Motorcycle Attorney, gave an interesting presentation. Among topics he discussed were: what happens when you have an accident? How will your insurance work? You could be left with significant inuries, brain damage, death, loss of work for extended periods of time, etc. No-fault insurance does not cover motorcycles! You won't benefit from no-fault. You must have provate health insurance to help pay your medical bills, and this will not necessarily cover your co-pay, unemployment, etc. Often (40% of the time) the driver who hit you has only the minimum coverage ($15,000). And Jerry stated that in his experience you NEVER get any money from the other driver. Auto insurance policies often exclude motorcycles from their coverage. Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage is a MUST for motorcycle riders, and although most of us get only the minimum, we should definitely get more. Jerry suggested that the least we should have is $100k, but we would be crazy not to spend a little extra money and get the maximum ($250k). For Rider Insurance, the max. is only $138. Jerry would be glad to discuss your personal insurance questions at no charge; his number is 1-800-Law-4-Hogs. Also discussed: RWBFR's non-profit status, liability, tax status, etc. Jerry suggests that we register as a 501-C-4 for a variety of reasons. We will discuss this proposition.
2. Belleplain Bash is this coming weekend (May 9-11). Picnic is Saturday, 3pm. We are at Group Campsite #2 at the park. Signs will be erected. Mike will have his trailer at the VVA on Thursday evening 6-9 pm if you would like to have him bring stuff like tents, coolers, etc.Linda Haug will also be bringing perishable items to the park on Sat. afternoon. Call her if you'd like her help. There is a breakfast ride leaving the campsite on Sat. morning at 9am. An evening ride will take place at 7pm. Picninc is rain or shine (under pavilion if it rains). Linda passed around the sign up sheet for food, etc. Bring your own soda, juice, water, etc.
